Meow

May I have your attention, bipedal admirers, literary underlings, and fellow felines sneaking peeks when the humans aren’t looking...

I've just published a book less than a week ago...

and...

a new book is in the works.

Yes, you read that right. Another masterpiece is currently being paw-crafted by yours truly. So sharpen your claws and prepare your hearts... because this one might just be my finest nap-interrupted creation yet.

Meow

Three months ago today,
five kittens were born...
and then there were four.
These four, all boys, are getting big.

Pasha, who looks just like me, is nearly my size.
He likes to wrestle with me.
I can still take him...
but I don't know for how much longer.
He has a distinct voice.
And he purrs the moment the editor touches him.

Rumi looks like his dad.
He's big... and loud.
He eats and eats and eats.
He also purrs as soon as the editor touches him.

Echo, another who resembles his dad, is mischievous.
He plays while the rest of us eat.
Then he marches up and demands the editor's food.
And she gives it him, of course...
which makes the dogs give her dirty looks.

Hazel is mini-me.
He looks like me... just smaller... much smaller.
The editor is in love with him.
She calls him a toy —
the best toy she's ever had.
He's spoiled, and he knows it, too.

In case you're new here...
I'm Pishi:
feline philosopher,
author,
mother,
sister,
and daughter, of course.

Meow Meow

One cannot live in close proximity to brilliance — my brilliance, to be clear — and expect to escape unscathed by inspiration. Yes, dear readers, I’ve been mentioned in a memoir. Quiet Quarters, it’s called —  deceptively humble title for a book that, thankfully, includes me.

Now, let’s not exaggerate. I don’t take up the whole memoir — though I certainly could have. The author, my editor, had the good sense to include me. I live with her, after all. I supervise her, inspire her, sleep beside her, and occasionally allow her to stroke my royal head.

Some might say it’s just a passing mention. I say it’s a cameo... a spark... the part readers will remember.

So if you’re reading Quiet Quarters (and you should be), do keep your whiskers twitching for the best part. That’s me... always showing up when it matters.

P. P.

PS - Quiet? Rarely. Quarters? Claimed.
